Sundance Institute champions bold, independent storytelling and fosters open and respectful discourse. Our events and programs are designed to encourage diverse perspectives while maintaining a culture of mutual respect. We are committed to freedom of creative expression and uphold anti-racist, anti-sexist, and anti-discriminatory actions in all areas of the Sundance Institute community. We strive to create a safe and welcoming environment for all community members, including staff, volunteers, artists, audiences, vendors, and partners.
To maintain an inclusive community, we ask everyone to:
- Show Respect: Treat all individuals with dignity and kindness, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity/expression, disability, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, age, physical appearance and body size, language spoken, and immigration or economic status.
- Use Thoughtful Communication: Avoid hate speech, discriminatory language, or demeaning or harassing behavior.
- Respect Personal Boundaries: Refrain from unwelcome sexual attention, harassment, stalking, or any inappropriate physical contact.
- Act Responsibly at Events: Be respectful of moderators, artists, and audience members by refraining from sustained disruption of screenings, sessions, talks, or other events.
- Be Mindful of Power Dynamics: Do not use your status, race, gender, position, or wealth to intimidate or abuse others.
- Protect Intellectual Property: Acknowledge and respect the originality of others’ work and refrain from plagiarism or piracy.
- Prioritize Health & Safety: Stay home when you feel unwell to help prevent the spread of illness.
- Value Local Communities: Be courteous to local residents and communities.
