There are so many reasons why it’s so meaningful to come together for the Sundance Film Festival each year: The sense of possibility every time we take our seats and the lights dim. The thrill of being part of a dialogue with fiercely independent artists. The power of seeing yourself reflected on screen, or recognizing something universal in the story of someone whose life is entirely different from your own.
Ultimately, our magic is the community and this year, with all that so many have endured, we need these moments together. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of connection that comes from watching films together — and engaging with work that inspires understanding, challenges us, and shines a light on perspectives from across cultures and around the world. It reminds us of how essential it is to care for one another, to listen deeply, and to gain empathy by experiencing stories that transcend our own lived realities.
This shared experience has never mattered more. We are in a pivotal time for our country and for the arts. This year, we gather at a moment when many in our community are grappling with the ongoing impact of devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles area. These challenges highlight the resilience of our shared humanity and the power of storytelling to foster healing and connection.
In light of all this — and with immense hope for the future — we are grateful for this opportunity to welcome you to the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. We hope these next 11 days will be inspiring, restorative, and a source of renewal. We could not be prouder of this year’s program, or the authentic artists who poured their hearts, souls, and boundless creativity into the work you are about to see.
Thank you to the hundreds of staff and volunteers who make this Festival come to life and to the thousands upon thousands of viewers in the audience. And, finally, congratulations to all of the artists showing work this year; welcome to the Sundance family.
Enjoy the Festival!
