By Stephanie Ornelas

It’s been two years since we’ve gathered together in Utah and we’re excited to return in person with more films, more accessibility, and new ticketing options for an unforgettable Festival experience. This roadmap is designed to help you have a smooth journey to the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and will guide you through everything you need to know so you can focus on what you came here for — celebrating independent cinema.

We’ll be here every step of the way to give you all the information you need about lodging, safety protocols, and creating your schedule. As we await the 2023 program’s release, keep this step-by-step guide handy to help make your trip to the Festival as seamless as possible.

Create your account

This is the first thing you must do before anything else! Visit our Festival website and create your account for free, where you’ll be prompted to enter your email address and create a password. For those returning from last year, this is especially easy because it’s the same information you used in 2022. These will be your credentials for when you log in each day to view your schedule, information on special talks and events, and other important Festival details. Any emails or notifications regarding the 2023 Festival will be sent to the email address you provide.

Purchase the pass or package of your choice

a group of three friends, two men and one woman, are showing their tickets to the camera in a very excited manner Once you’ve created your account, head on over to our ticketing page and browse our Festival passes and packages. Whether you’re interested in the Festival Package (by far our most popular), the brand-new World Cinema Package, which provides tickets for international documentary and fiction feature films, the Local’s Package for Utahns and those based in Salt Lake City, or the Ignite Package presented by Adobe for attendees aged 18-25, each ticket package is designed to help build your ideal Festival experience. When you’ve browsed through each option and found the package of your choice, simply add it to your cart and make your purchase. Pro-tip: give the gift of independent cinema and purchase some tickets to give to your loved ones for the holidays this year!

Now that you’ve purchased your tickets, it’s time to sort out lodging. Finding the best spot to stay and recharge in between screenings can make a huge impact on your overall experience. Visit our Lodging page on the Festival site for a hassle-free process. At the top of the page, you’ll see the option to enter the dates you are attending. Then select your free gift to help make your journey through Utah a little easier — round-trip airport transportation, two film tickets, or Lyft credit. From there, you’ll be guided to a list of available hotel rooms.

After the program is released (and once you’ve examined the schedule closely), be sure to add the films that really intrigue you to your “Favorites” list. As you click through the film of your choice, there will be a “Favorite” option underneath the title. Click that and the film will be added to your schedule. This will help you keep track of all the films you want to see, when they’re screening, and where to find them. Can’t find a film? Use the search tool at the top right.

Planning for the Festival shouldn’t be a stressful or daunting task. In fact, the process should gear you up and get you excited for another year of new independent cinema. But if you happen to come across any issues, don’t hesitate to send us a chat via the help tool at the bottom of the page. We’ll see you in Utah!
