Live Entertainment Announced
Award-winning musicians from Sundance Institute's Composers Lab will perform live, making this evening an unforgettable kick-off for the 2010 Festival:
- George Clinton calls Lili Haydn "the Jimi Hendrix of the violin." Rolling Stone called her music “fiery and virtuosic...” A solo artist who has performed songs on The Tonight Show and Californication, Lili has been featured in the film Pirates of the Caribbean, among many others.
- Violinist Gingger Shankar is the creative force behind some of today's most daring music. She is the only female to master the ten string violin (featured in Mel Gibson's The Passion Of The Christ) and her music is also heard in Mike Nichol's Charlie Wilson's War.
- Guitarist Kim Carroll has scored films, including The Colony, The Horse Boy, and Survival of the Wildebeest. His guitar music is featured in Gone Baby Gone, The Chronicles of Narnia, and others.
- Guitarist iZLER cut his teeth performing in various bands around London, scoring film school movies, and working as a session guitarist. He has since composed scores and songs for films and T.V. shows including Humboldt County, Whatever It Takes, This Revolution, My Best Friend’s Girl, ER, and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
- Drummer Will Calhoun has received two Grammy Awards and has worked with artists, including Living Colour, B.B. King, Mick Jagger, Jaco Pastorious, Harry Belafonte, Paul Simon, and Lou Reed. His latest creation is Native Lands.
"By the time we reach January 21, we will have been preparing for and anticipating the moment for months. Opening Night of the Sundance Film Festival is the official kick-off to a new year of independent film. Gathering a film-loving community for ten days of extraordinary storytelling is a pleasure and I look forward to sharing it with you."
John Cooper, Director of the Sundance Film Festival
