Utah High School Screening Series
Sundance Institute offers Utah students and teachers the incredible opportunity to participate in one of the world's top five film festivals through the Sundance Film Festival High School Screening Program. With a selection of documentary and narrative films, the program presents an opportunity for students to explore the medium of film as entertainment, and as a powerful tool for raising awareness of issues that shape national and international political and social landscapes. After each screening, the filmmaker conducts a question & answer session with the students. Utah students have been among the first to view films such as Napoleon Dynamite, March of the Penguins, and An Inconvenient Truth.
This program presents 2009 Sundance Film Festival films specially chosen by Institute staff to reflect issues and interests relevant to high school students. Rigorous attention is given to ensure films contain content appropriate for this age group. Through the support of the Salt Lake County Economic Development, Salt Lake County Zoo, Arts & Parks Program, Summit County Recreation Arts and Parks Program, and the Utah Arts Council, these screenings are free to students.
We host screenings in Salt Lake City at the Broadway Theatre during the day Monday-Friday. Screenings times are approximately 8:30a.m. and 11:30a.m. We host two screenings in Ogden (date TBD). Teachers are required to get students to the venue in the screenings. In 2008, we hosted 34 schools and 4,000 students, and we want to host even more participants for 2009.

Locals-Only Student Preferred Package [January 16-25, 2009]
As part of Sundance Institute's dedication to the discovery and development of independent artists, and our commitment to local community involvement, we invite college students from the local community to access the Festival through an exclusive Locals-Only Student Preferred Package.
This program offers full-time undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in the following accredited baccalaureate degree level institutions* the opportunity to purchase a Locals-Only Student Preferred Package:
BYU, Dixie State College, Southern Utah University, University of Utah, Utah State University, Utah Valley University, Weber State University, and Westminster College.
*As noted by the Commission on College and Universities, institutions must have a physical campus.
Benefits Include:
- For $300 select a total of 20 tickets to screenings in Salt Lake City and Ogden. Limit 4 tickets per screening.
- A ticket package valued at a 20% discount off the Locals-Only SLC/Ogden Preferred Package.
- Ability to have priority to select tickets before Locals-Only Advance Individual Tickets and National Advance Individual Tickets go on sale.
- Two Festival Credentials give students access to our non-theatre venues in Park City to experience music and panels with a friend.
- Ability to register and purchase additional individual tickets through local and national sales if interested.

High School and University Students at the Festival
Sundance Institute invites high school and college students across the country to experience the Sundance Film Festival by providing access to screenings, panels, and events during the second half of the Festival. While benefits vary slightly for high school and college groups, all participating students see films, attend panels about current issues in independent filmmaking, and experience the energy of the Festival.
Ticket packages are limited, so interested groups are encouraged to apply early. The application process is the same for high school and college groups. The application deadline is September 29, 2008, and groups will be notified of acceptance by October 3, 2008.

High School Students at Festival
Who is Eligible?
In order to participate, youth groups must be sponsored and chaperoned by a teacher or advisor from their high school or organization.
- Students must be of high school age.
- Groups must consist of a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 12 students and 2 chaperones.
- Preference is given to high schools and youth groups with ethnically diverse student populations. Also taken into consideration in the selection process are geography, past participation, and full completion of application process.
What is included?
- Each participant receives 5 complimentary tickets to be used at regular screenings or panel discussions. Tickets may only be used during the second half of the Festival, Wednesday, January 21 - Sunday, January 25, 2009. A maximum of 12 student and 2 chaperone ticket packages are available to each school or organization.
- A credential which provides access to the Sundance House, New Frontier on Main, and Filmmaker Lodge.

University / College Students at Festival
Who is Eligible?
- In order to participate, student groups must be comprised of 5 to 20 students and be sponsored by a professor.
- Preference is given to colleges and universities with ethnically diverse student populations. Also taken into consideration in the selection process are the program’s relevance to film, geography, past participation, and full completion of application process.
What is included?
- Each participant will receive 5 tickets at $15.00 each to be used at regular screenings or panel discussions.
- Tickets may only be used during the second half of the Festival, Wednesday, January 21 - Sunday, January 25, 2009.
- A credential which provides access to the Sundance House, New Frontier on Main, Filmmaker Lodge, and Music Café (must be 21 years of age)
- A maximum of 20 ticket packages are available to each school.
