AWARDS
The culmination of the Sundance Film Festival is the Awards Ceremony. The competition Juries, comprised of individuals from the worldwide film community with original and diverse points of view, select films from both the Documentary and Dramatic categories to receive the following awards:

FILM_GUIDE_B GRAND JURY PRIZE
The ranking award of the Independent Feature Film Competition, the Grand Jury Prize recognizes a film in both the Documentary and Dramatic categories as the best from the independent film community that year.

2006 Winners: Grand Jury Prize: Documentary, God Grew Tired of Us, directed by Christopher Quinn; Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic, Quinceañera, written and directed by Wash Westmoreland and Richard Glatzer.

WORLD CINEMA COMPETITION
Now in its second year, the World Cinema Competition features juried prizes that honor the best Dramatic feature and Documentary film from the International independent community. All the films in this year's World Cinema program are eligible for these new awards, which are decided by an International jury.
2006 Winners: World Cinema Jury Prize: Documentary, In the Pit, written and directed by Juan Carlos Rulfo; World Cinema Jury Prize: Dramatic, 13 Tzameti, written and directed by Géla Babluani.

DIRECTING AWARD
The award acknowledges directing expertise in both a Documentary and Dramatic film from the competitions.

: Documentary Directing Award, James Longley, Iraq in Fragments; Dramatic Directing Award, Dito Montiel, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints.

CINEMATOGRAPHY AWARD
This award celebrates excellence in cinematography in both the Documentary and Dramatic film from the competitions.

WALDO SALT SCREENWRITING AWARD
The Dramatic Competition Jury chooses a film to receive this specific award, which honors outstanding screenwriting.

DOCUMENTARY EDITING AWARD
The Documentary Competition Jury chooses a film to receive this specific award, which honors excellence in editing.

2006 Winners

AUDIENCE AWARDS
American Documentary & Dramatic Audience awards presented by Volkswagen of America, Inc.


Audience Awards are bestowed upon films based on the results of ballots cast by Festivalgoers at the theatres after a screening. Audience Awards are presented only to films in the Festival's American and World Competitions.

JURY PRIZE IN SHORT FILMMAKING
Presented by Adobe


This prize is bestowed on one American and one International Short Film in the Competition that exemplifies outstanding vision and creativity.

2006 Winners: Jury Prize in Short Filmmaking, Bugcrush, directed by Carter Smith and The Wraith of Cobble Hill, directed by Adam Parrish King; Jury Prize in International Short Filmmaking was given to The Natural Route, directed by Alex Pastor; Honorable Mentions, Before Dawn, directed by Bálint Kenyeres, Preacher With an Unknown God, directed by Rob VanAlkemade, and Undressing My Mother, directed by Ken Wardrop.

ALFRED P. SLOAN FEATURE FILM PRIZE
Provided by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, this award is presented to the writer and director of an outstanding feature film focusing on science or technology as a theme, or depiciting a scientist, engineer, or mathematician as a major character.

2006 Winners: The House of Sand, directed by Andrucha Waddington and written by Elena Soarez.

SPECIAL JURY PRIZES
The Documentary and Dramatic Juries may, at their discretion, select one film from each of the Festival's competitions to receive special recognition for their unique vision or excellence.

2006 Winners: Documentary, American Blackout, directed by Ian Inaba and TV Junkie, directed by Michael Cain and Matt Radecki; Dramatic, Best Ensemble Performance, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, directed by Dito Montiel and starring Robert Downey, Jr., Shia La Boeuf, Rosario Dawson, Chazz Palminteri, Dianne Wiest and Channing Tatum; Dramatic, Independent Vision, In Between Days, directed by So Yong Kim and written by So Yong Kim and Bradley Rust Gray; World Cinema Documentary, Into Great Silence, written and directed by Philip Groening and Dear Pyongyang, written and directed by Yonghi Yang; World Cinema Dramatic, Eve & the Fire Horse, written and directed by Julia Kwan.

SUNDANCE/NHK INTERNATIONAL FILMMAKERS AWARDS
This annual award was created to support new voices in international cinema. It is presented to emerging film directors from several different areas of the globe to support them in realizing their next project.

2006 Winners: Patrice Toy, The Spring Ritual; Fernando Eimbcke, Lake Tahoe; Cruz Angeles, Don't Let Me Drown; and Kanji Nakajima, The Clone Returns to the Homeland.
